This original color woodcut on paper, measures, 12 3/4”H x 12 5/8”W, and is titled "Pinon Grand Canyon”. This woodcut is by Gustaave Baumann (1881-1971) and is signed Gustave Baumann in the lower right margin. The wood cut is also titled in the lower left margin and is numbered 48 in the center of the margin. It is believed there was a total of 125 images produced in 1921. In addition there were five views of the Grand Canyon produced. The image consists of a view looking down in to the Grand Canyon through the branch of a pinon tree. The view also reveals large cliffs in the center on the left and right and details or highlights of the canyon towards the center of the woodcut with the rim of the canyon revealed at the top. This image is beautifully colored with greens and blues and sand as well as purples and pinks in the foreground. This woodcut is beautifully framed in a 2 5/8” scoop wood molding. The liner is a 3” hand wrapped linen covering an archival 8-ply mat and an acid free spacer between the image and the linen and covered in museum glass. This woodcut has a small tear in the upper center and a light tear on the lower right margin otherwise it is in excellent condition considering its age.
